Dr. Mark Holterman Battles Childhood Diabetes and More

Dr. Mark Holterman sees children today and the increasing rate of type 2 diabetes as a serious medical problem affecting them. This pediatric surgeon who not only has practiced for years but now teaches surgery and pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine sees the need for action. Type 2 diabetes can be a preventable disease that can be avoided with proper eating habits and physical activity.


As a member of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) he is excited by the movement that has started CampPowerUp. Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the ADA have joined hands to design a program that will be offered to schools, camps, and other youth-based activities. With this program, they will be able to offer children the education necessary to keep their bodies healthy and free of type 2 diabetes.
